Methodology

How we research snorkel spots and tours.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A good snorkel spot depends on your swimming ability, the season and the day’s conditions. We describe spots and tours using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.

How We Rank Options

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Swimmer fit

Match the spot or tour to beginners, families or confident swimmers.

  2. 2

    Access

Describe the entry, parking, facilities, lifeguards and any fees or permits stated by the source.

  3. 3

    Season and conditions

Note when published sources describe calmer or rougher seasons, and that daily conditions vary.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits
  • ✗Guaranteed marine-life sightings

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Parks and marine agencies

Official descriptions, rules, closures and ocean-safety guidance

  2. 2. Tour operators and rental shops

Direct descriptions of trips, gear and booking terms

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published context with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide leaves it out rather than guessing, and the cited park or operator page is the place to check it.
